Safety Engineer (9/8/09)

Safety Engineer (South Central KS area) for this 400+ employee refinery. This position reports to the Manager of Safety and Health at the facility. The department consists of 25+ safety and security employees which include fire safety, behavioral safety, occupational health nurse and security personnel. The ideal candidate should have 2 7 years of safety experience in a refinery, petrochemical, specialty chemical or chemical manufacturer, and a BS in Safety or related. While this person will be involved in all aspects of personnel safety throughout the plant, this will be the lead position for contractor safety so experience in contractor safety would be a plus.

Major Duties and Responsibillities:

  • Responsible for providing comprehensive industrial hygiene support for designated units including but not limited to developing, implementing and maintaining exposure assessment and control, hearing conservation, radiation protection, and hazard communication programs.
  • Leading or supporting teams to improve processes and implement standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Industrial Hygiene (or closely related field) required. Chemical industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • ABIH certification (CIH) required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of safety & health regulations and industrial hygiene sampling equipment & procedures
  • Results orientated with good interpersonal, communication, and team-based skills
  • Strong data analysis and statistics skills
  • Proficient in MS Office products
